How We Do It

We Support Projects through Fiscal Sponsorship

A fiscal sponsorship is an arrangement in which a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entity (Driftless Food Club) agrees to accept donations on behalf of a partner organization that is not tax-exempt to support a project that advances our charitable mission.

When our board chooses to enter into a fiscal sponsorship agreement with a partner, they can apply for grants, conduct fundraising activities, and accept tax-deductible donations. However, we supervise and control the funds and the project must further our mission and align with our values.

To conduct this oversight and provide administrative support, we retain 10% of each sponsored project’s total raised funds. We also provide an IRS-compliant donation receipt to donors and account for the partner organization’s financial activities in our financial statements.

Our Goals

Driftless Food club is a young organization and we’ve decided to focus on three goals during our first five years.

Goal #1: Build a Strong Organization

We will develop and fine tune our administrative and financial procedures to ensure transparency for partners and donors.

Goal #2: Seek Out and Support Projects that Support Our Mission

We will utilize personal and professional networks to take our show on the road and connect with food entrepreneurs in the Dubuque Market.

Goal #3: Provide a Space for Education and Sharing

We will provide best practice and “what didn’t work” sessions to share the good, bad and ugly of trying to get a business or non-profit food project off the ground.
